02/04/3050. Day 130, 07:00
Hauptmann Samara Hellstrom received a communication from the Atlantia Military Base informing her that the communications logs had been tampered with and the location of Fort Vigilance could have been compromised from that source (in addition to the landing of the dropship bringing the Diplomatic Mission).
During the rest of the day the Hellstrom’s Hellions pilots and support personnel prepared for the expected attack. Adept VI-Iota Michelle Abnett was sniffing around Ruin Dmitar‘s battlemech the Koter KTR-1G. Ken Tyler put on a show of ’training’ in battlemech gunnery, though Ruin Dmitar had already determined he was a trained and qualified battlemech operator. Adept IX-Epsilon Bryce Alexander and the ComStar personnel snuck off to guard the HPG facility, against Samara’s orders.
02/04/3050. Day 130, 17:30
Samara Hellstrom and Ruin Dmitar met secretly. Ruin wished to fully brief the Hauptmann on all the covert schenanigans he had uncovered, including:
- Adept VI-Iota Michelle Abnett was a trueborn elemental, loyal to the Wolf’s Dragoons and also Clan Wolf, and that was the clan which had conquered her homeworld of New Dusseldorf.
- Professor Anna Morozov was descended from Clan Jade Falcon, and opposing that clan was the inspiration behind Special Project 17.
- Ken Tyler was a DMI agent and there was at least one other.
- The DMI didn’t fully trust Samara and had sent Ruin to watch over her and Ken to watch over him.
- Ingrid ‘Mouse’ Marsh‘s father was in ComStar and taught her forbidden lore about the organisation, and that she feared being press-ganged into the order. Also that Adept VI-Iota Michelle Abnett was fully aware of the fact, but despite being a double agent opposed to ComStar Michelle considered the Mouse to be a potential future asset against ComStar for the Hellstrom’s Hellions. Adept IX-Epsilon Bryce Alexander was also aware of Mouse’s parentage, but far from wanting to recruit her for ComStar he was sent only to protect and watch over her by her as-yet unidentified father.
02/04/3050. Day 130, 20:00
Ingrid ‘Mouse’ Marsh reported to Samara Hellstrom that she had detected an incoming sensor anomaly, most likely battlemechs under the cover of ECM.
While the support pilots scrambled, Samara Hellstrom led her lance into action. Rather than piloting the KOTOR and Peromyscus, Samara had assigned Ruin and Mouse to the Steel Horse and Summer Rain respectively. Ken and Barclay were en-route in the Kotor and Peromyscus.
The incoming hostiles were approaching from the upper side of the base, not the lower side where the Zmey was stationed.
- Hauptmann Samara Hellstrom, piloting the Weta WTA-IIB
- Leftenant Ruin Dmitar, piloting the Steel Horse
- Ingrid ‘Mouse’ Marsh, piloting the Summer Rain
- Jacques Dubois, piloting the Cambion CMB-H2
- CPO Lionel Barclay, piloting Mouse’s Peromyscus PRY-S1
- Ken Tyler, piloting Ruin’s Koter KTR-1G
The initial opposing forces were engaged and revealed to be two lances of Draconis Combine battlemechs.
- Hunchback HBK-5S.
- Raven RVN-SS.
- Trebuchet TBT-7M.
- Wolf Trap WFT-1.
- Grand Dragon DRG-5K.
- Panther PNT-12A.
- Panther PNT-12A.
These were engaged, and during the battle additional hostiles arrived, the Scholz Streikende forces which had used the Draconis Combine to lead them to their targets.
- Assassin ASN-30. Piloted by Mercenary Captain Gregor Scholz.
- Atlas AS7-S. Piloted by Mercenary Jonathan Salomon, Gray Death Legion defector.
- Awesome AWS-9Q. Piloted by Mercenary Rookie Adel Weiss.
- Hunchback HBK-5S. Piloted by Mercenary Mechwarrior Julius Hoffman.
- Enforcer ENF-5D. Piloted by Mercenary Mechwarrior Olaf Keller.
Initially the Scholz Streikende focused upon Ken Tyler, assuming Ruin Dmitar would be piloting the Koter KTR-1G. Ruin Dmitar fired upon the Assassin ASN-30, taking off its arm then boasting his achievement and true location to the mercenaries. This caused them to shift focus to him, letting Ruin successfully divert them while the others dealt with the Draconis Combine forces. Dealing with the Draconis was a opportunity Jacques Dubois relished, eagerly and brutally.
Slower moving Draconis Combine forces took the field late in the battle, four assault battlemechs using a new technology, a C3 network.
- Cyclops CP-11-C.
- Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T.
- Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T.
- Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T.
The combined efforts of the Hellions, and a last minute dynamic landing by Hpt. Kommandant Dieter Herrman and his Zeus ZEU-9S2 onto a Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T succeeded in neutralising the three waves of hostile forces during the protracted battle. They took the surviving pilots captive and salvaged their battlemechs as Captured Assets.
02/04/3050. Day 130, 21:45
Repair work began on the lightly damaged battlemechs, those only requiring armour replacement. These were scheduled for completion before midnight. This included some captured units. The more heavily damaged Kotor, Steel Horse, and Summer Rain were put in for repairs and due for completion the following day (03/04/3050). The downed enemy battlemechs were slated in for repairs following that, beginning with the most easily repaired. Those too severely damaged for repairs (or otherwise not worth the effort) were to be loaded into the dropship along with salvaged new technologies to be sent to the Strata Institute of Science for reverse engineering.
Hauptmann Samara Hellstrom planned to use some of the captured battlemechs to make a garrison for Fort Vigilance.
Garrison Lance:
- Hatamoto-Chi HTM-28T
- Hatamoto-Chi HTM-AW3
- Great Dragon DRG-H5
- Trebuchet TBT-H7
- Panther PNT-H12
