Bio:

The Zmey has been rebuilt from the chassis of an old land train once owned by New Cairo Mining, prior to the company being destroyed by bandit activity. The land train, having no legitimate owner, defaulted to government salvage and was re-purposed as a mobile command and control center.

The most universal overhaul was the addition of extra armor across all cars, however local land-train armor plating was used (much of it second-hand) to minimize costs while protecting the crew. Additionally, most populated cars had an Anti-Missile System installed to provide added safeguards for the personnel within.

The engines were rebuilt to include environmental sealing and turret-mounted energy weapons, while the four passenger cars were re-purposed to serve as military barracks, crew quarters, MASH and Command and Control, the latter being equipped with state-of-the-art communications and electronic warfare systems.

The cargo cars were either left mostly unmodified (150T capacity with hoist), or modified into vehicle bays, with one triple-VTOL Bay car and one car containing a MechBay as a mobile repair and refit center.

Samara’s Commentary
The Zmey is surprisingly effective for a re-purposed cargo vessel, though it took no small amount of effort to convince Strata Command to part with the weaponry to ensure this asset has at least some protection.

Although quarters were provided in the Infantry and Support carriages, almost all the technical staff have relocated to the staff facilities in the VTOL Hanger and MechBay cars, leaving us with additional accommodation space within the old passenger cars. By my estimate we could take on up to 60 additional troops before filling the passenger cars alone – however for long term operations that extra capacity serves to give the soldiers a little more ‘breathing room’, which should help morale.

The cargo hoists have an added advantage; by my calculations the Zmey should be able to carry every soldier and vehicle except for the Buffalo (which is best served on supply runs and away from any firefight anyway), to allow for 24/7 mobility of the base without running shifts on the vehicle drivers.

It should serve our purposes in the Lowlands quite nicely.
