Order of the Silver Chalice

The Order of the Silver Chalice is a knightly order formed in 2760.

Simon Cameron, First Lord of the Star League, had died in mysterious circumstances in 2751. His silver chalice was recovered by Lady Alise Marlee Westbrook, and taken to House Davion, where she sought sanctuary from Stefan Amris whom she suspected of complicity in the death of the First Lord.

Lady Alise Marlee Westbrook claimed asylum claiming that the Amris family was attempting to silence her and others loyal to the Cameron family. Simon Cameron’s successor Richard Cameron was but an eight year old child at the time of his father’s death, and unable to recognise friend from for or navigate the tangled web of Star League politics.

As Richard Cameron’s reign went from bad to worse, the chalice Lady Alise Marlee Westbrook had brought to House Davion became a symbol of the ‘true Star League’. A rumour formed and became a legend, that the Silver Chalice of Cameron was tied to the rightful ruler of the Star League and that the next rightful ruler of the Star League would in some unspecified way be linked to the chalice or the bearer of the chalice.

In 2760 the Order of the Silver Chalice was officially ordained by the ruler of House Davion. Shortly afterwards Richard Cameron Taxation Edict was taken as proof he was not the rightful First Lord of the Star League by devotees of the Silver Chalice legend.

The Amris Coup of 2766 saw the public assassination of Richard Cameron at the hand of Stefan Amris, and to the members of the Order of the Silver Chalice this was taken as the end of the Star League. Historians would record the end of the Star League as 2780, however the Order of the Silver Chalice holds that the rule of the Amris family from 2766 to 2780 was illegitimate.

The tradition of the Order of the Silver Chalice is to hold true to the Star League and the golden age when mankind was united. Champions of peace, law, and order are favoured by the Order of the Silver Chalice, however over the centuries they have shown a fondness for dispossessed nobles, betrayed rulers, champions abandoned by the people they had saved, and heroes who have fallen from grace at the hands of the less worthy.
